This is a homemade, battery powered device that connects via ethernet to any rss feed, picks out title tags and reads them across an LCD. In this case, the BBC frontpage.

I made this at music hackday 2009, however I seemed to have missed out the music bit….

This is a Max/MSP driven react-table. The user can mix beats and
synths with effects by placing, moving and rotating blocks on a
back-lit glass surface.  It was created for public use and has
been shown at various events across the south-west including
Bristol Festival.


Some effects only affect the closest sound source, others affect
all relative to their distance appart.  All the sound loops are
inter-changable and with very little effort, some unique and
bizarre sounds can be made!

The blocks have 'fiducial' markers on the bottom, which are
picked up by a CCD cam underneath.  The max patch does the rest
of the work.

This is a large controller for the crowd to use during an ableton live set. It was built with perspex, wood, silicone, an arduino, Max/MSP and a lot of wires.

Unlike a regular midi controller, the crowd controller uses a time-code from ableton to keep its time-based effects constantly in-time. This means the audience cannot go wrong. In addition to this, the DJ can play his set in ableton live and choose which channels are affected by which effects on the controller.

The LEDs show which effects are available and when one, or a few of of similar sound have been over used, the LED goes out and the effect is disabled. after 8 bars, the effects is then available again.

The rotary faders are sprung which means when a user lets go they will return to their original position. This again prevents the user from making undesired changes to the music.

The effects available are: beat repeat, beat build up, beat roll out, pitch up, pitch down, re-pitch, crossfade (between two ableton tracks), reverse,reverb, distortion, flange, filter, phaser and delay.

This is a little addition to the Max MSP DMX controller, allowing the user to control many aspects of the lighting patch from a mobile phone… this allows me to have a little dance and a drink whilst doing lighting

The app is a java file which connects the the host comupter via bluetooth.

The aim of this project was to improve upon the design of regular DMX controllers. Rather than storing positions of lights and moving between them, which is a very limiting method, I wanted to use sequences and combinations of wave shapes and algorithms to position the lights, as well as being able to keep the movement in time with the music.

This patch controls the pan, tilt, colour, strobe, gobo and gobo rotation of four scanners and strobe, brightness and colour mixing of each LED on the ACME Miracled.

Using different algorithms for pan and tilt, grouping these movements, flipping and rotating them, leaning them towards a direction and changing the amplitude, the lights can produce an almost infinite number of patterns which can be stored and crossfaded between, all in time to the music. In addition to this, patterns can be sequenced, stepped between and so much more I can’t put it all down!
